i know it’s been long i blogged,this is because i have been busy,ill and stressed….still ill though,but less stressed…..
i am talking about my outfit today because the question i get very often is:why do you dress the way you dress?
Before we get into the real ‘TALK’,here are some pictures that best describe the way i dress:
To be sincere, most times,i do the first one…and people often think black is my favourite colour.just for clarification:it isn’t…..i just like the fact that i can merge it with any other colour if i choose to….
The second one: i do mostly during summer….i have issues with black during summer,i get dehydrated easily, can’t stand the weather, but can’t trade my outfit for it…..so i still dress the usual way,but try to avoid black as much as i can, cos it absorb heat as we all know…..
The 3rd one: just happens, when i feel like and when i have to go to certain places that requires me to dress that way…for example(the beach side or hanging out with friends and so on)……
Back home when i have do native i still cover, either with a longer Hijab or sow the dress in a way at which i could use a himar( a wrapped veil) on it……
Why i dress the way i do:
To please God.by doing this,I am obeying the commands of my Lord when I wear the Hijab(covering from head to toe, except my face and hands),I can expect great rewards in return.for HE says in the Qur’an:
O prophet! tell thy wives and daughters and the believing women that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient that they should be known (as such) and not molested: and Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful. – Surah Al-ahzab.V59
Outwardly,it reflects innocence, purity, modesty, shyness, serenity, contentment and obedience to my Lord. Inwardly cultivates the same.
Compare this to life in today’s society: We are constantly sizing one another up on the basis of our clothing, jewelry, hair and makeup. What kind of depth can there be in a world like this? Yes, I have a body, a physical manifestation upon this Earth. But it is the vessel of an intelligent mind and a strong spirit. It is not for the beholder to leer at or to use in advertisements to sell everything from beer to cars!
Because of the superficiality of the world in which we live, external appearances are so stressed that the value of the individual counts for almost nothing. It is a myth that women in today’s society are liberated! What kind of freedom can there be when a woman can not walk down the street without every aspect of her physical self being “checked out”?
When I wear the hijab I feel safe from all of this. I can be rest assured that no one is looking at me and making assumptions about my character from the length of my skirt. There is a barrier between me and those who would exploit me. I am first and foremost a human being, equal to any man, and not vulnerable because of my sexuality.
People think we are actually forced to dress this way.the truth is, we are not.for me, i am the only one who dress like this in my family and i was never forced to.it was my choice! i don’t intend to force anyone to either,as i keep, have and respect people who do not…..and so When people ask me if I feel oppressed, I can honestly say no. I made this decision out of my own free will.
My body is my own business. Nobody can tell me how I should look or whether or not I am beautiful. I know that there is more to me than that. I am also able to say “no” comfortably when people ask me if I feel as though my sexuality is being repressed. I have taken control of my sexuality…..
so why do you dress the way you do?
We all do have our choice of dressing and this is mine…… 🙂
Thanks to Nawal who has been on my neck to do this and thanks to you guys for dropping by….
Until next time
Much love 🙂
