POVERTY OF TIME.

Surah Baqara is one Surah I love so much because it touches almost every aspect of life. I never get tired of going back to it over and over again because each time I read it Allah s.w.t open my eyes to something new. Alhamdulillah.

One of my favorite ayah in Surah Baqara is Q2:268 where Allah swt remind us about his promises and shaitan promises….

الشَّيْطَانُ يَعِدُكُمُ الْفَقْرَ وَيَأْمُرُكُم بِالْفَحْشَاءِ ۖ وَاللَّـهُ يَعِدُكُم مَّغْفِرَةً مِّنْهُ وَفَضْلًا ۗ وَاللَّـهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

Quran: 2:268-268

This Ayah is my go to Ayah! I mean just like every other Ayah, there is a deeper meaning to it. My sisters always tease me with this Ayah because I recite it almost every time, when I am being lazy or doing something Haram I Immediately go ” Ya Barakah shaitan has promised you poverty (of time and Immorality……)” then I seek refuge from shaitan, I then do Istifigfar and then I stand up…..

Because I say this almost all the time people now say it for me, which I find absolutely Interesting. Feels good to have family and friends as reminders of the most beautiful book but of course they do it in a crazy way….. (Hello if you are reading this, you know yourselves).

Now you might wonder “what is this poverty of time?” Let me explain without boring you.
In the western world. We say “time is money right? You can as well say time is Jannah. Yea! Shaitan has promise to tempt believers and prevent them from connecting with their creator. So most times, you find yourself not being productive at all when you have so much to do or so much you can do to please your creator….. Poverty of time could be short term or long term….

Short term
Here poverty of time is you choosing to watch a movie rather than pray, Is you choosing to sleep rather than study e.t.c
Shaitan often gets you to that point where you say “I have wasted the whole day doing nothing” I didn’t even pray…” That’s the wrong use of time and that’s the poverty of time/immorality he has promised.

Long term
People go years and years disobeying their creator, doing things that will neither benefit their duniya or Akihira, totally forgetting their creator, constantly procrastinating on bonding with Allah… These people are usually involved in loads of repeated Immorality and after a long time they regret their wasted years….This is poverty of time, you have wasted years of your life being a Muslim yet not being a Muslim….

Shaitan doesn’t want you to be productive so he tries to get your mind occupied with things that you can do away with, most times the easiest things like should I pray now or boil this water first and before you know it you settle for boiling the water, you then start checking your phone and then you realize it’s an hour past Dhur.

Now to the Amazing part of the Ayah…
Allah has warned us of shaitan’s promises which is “poverty”. Which means shaitan will put the fear of loss in your mind, so he will try to make you stingy, he will make you so Immoral that you won’t even remember your creator…
But then Allah went further to say “but I have promised you forgiveness” Subhanallah! Meaning don’t despair, I know shaitan is right after you, constantly whispering into your ears but whenever you have sinned turn right back to me and I will forgive you, but be sincere in your repentance and try not to go back to your sins…Allahu Akbar….
